Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (plus more for greasing)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 package (0.25 ounces) dry yeast
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a pot, heat buttermilk, butter, and sugar until simmering. Whisk in baking soda and let cool until lukewarm.
- In a bowl, combine yeast with 1/4 cup lukewarm water; let stand for 5 minutes. Mix this into the buttermilk mixture.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt; then combine with the wet ingredients to form a soft dough. Knead for about 2 minutes.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and allow it to rise for 30 minutes.
- Divide dough into 12 pieces, shape into balls, and place in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for about 1.5 hours.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake rolls for approximately 15 minutes until golden brown.
