Scale
  • 500g ground beef
  • 200g spaghetti
  • 6 crusty white rolls
  • 500g tomato passata
  • 100g butter (melted)
  • 200g mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • Olive oil for cooking
  • 1 medium white onion, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato puree
  • 80ml red wine
  • 240ml beef stock
  • ½ tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ bunch fresh basil, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 20g freshly grated parmesan
  • 30g parmesan for butter
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, made into paste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté diced onions until golden, then add minced garlic.
  2. Brown the ground beef in the skillet before stirring in tomato puree.
  3. Add red wine and let it reduce; then mix in tomato passata, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, and sugar. Simmer for 25 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the bread bowls by hollowing out the rolls and brushing them with a mixture of melted butter, garlic paste, parsley, and parmesan.
  5. Cook spaghetti until al dente; drain and combine with sauce.
  6. Fill each bread bowl with pasta, top with shredded mozzarella, and bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes or until golden.
